What you'd reasonably want to know
Straight answers about Melbourne Crest, how we invest, how we differ from a private equity firm, and how to start a conversation. If something isn't covered here, we're happy to answer it directly.
Melbourne Crest is a UK-based private holdings and advisory group. It acquires and holds operating companies, makes patient venture and growth investments, and provides strategic advisory — combining the patience of a holding company with the clarity of an independent adviser. The group is headquartered in London and invests globally.
A private holdings firm owns and stewards operating businesses for the long term. Melbourne Crest takes majority stakes in quality companies, supports their management with governance and disciplined capital allocation, and reinvests free cash flow where it earns an honest return — rather than trading businesses for a quick exit. Think of it as a permanent, patient home for a good business.
Two things, mostly. First, we invest our own capital with no fixed fund life, so there's no enforced exit clock — we can hold a great business for decades. Second, we're not driven by the need to deploy a fund or hit a return hurdle on a fixed timetable, which means we can make decisions on the natural arc of the business rather than the calendar of a fund.
We're sector-flexible but character-specific: we look for resilient, cash-generative operating companies with defensible positions and management teams who want a patient, active partner. We're based in London and work with businesses across the United Kingdom, Europe, the Gulf and further afield — including our UAE operating company, European Technical.
Both. Through our holdings capability we take majority or controlling stakes in established operating companies. Through venture and growth capital we take minority positions in scaling, founder-led businesses — on terms that let founders keep building and retain control of their direction.
Long, and deliberately indefinite. We hold businesses for years — often far longer than a typical fund cycle — and let compounding run. There is no fixed exit clock forcing a sale, and we'll only realise a position when it's the right time for the business and its owners.
Yes. Our strategic advisory capability — covering M&A, capital structure, succession and governance — stands on its own, independent of any investment. Advisory is delivered by senior people who have owned decisions like yours before, and it's unconflicted by a transaction mandate.

European Technical is Melbourne Crest's UAE operating company — a licensed Dubai home-maintenance and technical-services business. It's an example of the kind of resilient, essential-services operating company the group holds: well-run, genuinely useful, and built to endure. You can visit it at europeantechnical.ae.
Arrangements are tailored to each situation. Holdings and investments are structured around the specific business and the owner's goals; advisory is typically fee-based and scoped to the engagement. We'll always set out clearly how we work and what we charge before any commitment — no surprises.
Yes — discretion is one of our core values. We handle enquiries, conversations and sensitive information in confidence, and we're content for many of our relationships to remain entirely private. If confidentiality terms would help you speak freely, we're glad to put them in place before our first conversation.
